About Richard Bullock
Richard Bullock has been an accomplished golfer for over forty years and is a member of the Society of Hickory Golfers and the Florida Hickory Golfers Association.
An All-American player as well as a golf instructor while attending Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, Richard later became a professional golf tour player in the 1990’s. He competed alongside some of the greats of the game at the 1994 and 1995 USGA Senior Open Championships at Pinehurst and Congressional.
After retiring from the tour circuit, Richard accepted an invitation to join the Ben Sutton Golf School in Sun City, Florida. Richard continues to teach students on a case-by-case basis. Richard’s coaching philosophy is two-fold:
1.) He focuses on two to three elements that result in immediate improvement, rather than a total restructuring of a golfer’s game.
2.) He believes the golfer should “graduate” without the need for years of training and lessons.
In 2010, Richard discovered the hickory shafted golf movement. The grace and elegant challenges of returning to the game as it was played between the 1890’s and the 1930’s captured his heart and spirit, re-igniting his love of competitive play. In just a few short years Richard has become a national medalist in this unique golfing venue that has captured the attention of high ranking USPGA, PGA, Senior PGA and LPGA pros.
Richard’s experience as a professional hickory tournament champion has radically improved his already notable contemporary golf game. This enhanced experience, in turn, dramatically benefits his students, whether they are players of the contemporary game or vintage style.
During the winter months, Richard lives in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida and works with his students. Between Spring and Fall, he travels the U.S. and competes in as many national and regional tourneys as he can shake a hickory stick at, including the Temple Terrace Hickory Heritage Weekend, the Society of Hickory Golfers Championship Series and the Golf Collectors Society’s Heart of America Tournament, the longest running hickory golf event in the United States.
